Photography is a recording of moments
The tractor in the barn also stimulates your senses. Old wood, hay, a little scent of oil, gas and dried grain dust. If you’ve been on a farm, all of this is familiar. The barns require upkeep too, painting, cleaning, redoing the roof, repairing leaks, constant changing of the floor plan, perhaps adding on. Maybe a wedding, a party, shelter for a new tractor, memories come flooding back.
Our man-made environment of tractors, trucks, and barns needs to be seen in the context of nature’s greatest gift, the land, the gift of a river valley, and incredibly fertile soil.
In time the land shapes us. We appreciate the seasons. Respect for the soil grows in us. We find the best guidance is in partnership in doing what’s best for the land. We can each be blessed by the other.
Population increases due to a greater number of smaller farms, the ongoing changes in larger farms, and the appreciation of this unique valley by artists, photographers, painters, writers, birders, and bikers has placed increased pressure on this county for development.
The goal of my photography is to bring to us a realization and appreciation of Skagit Valley and the special moments seen here.
Every moment on this sacred ground is treasured.
